What is Buckle fracture?

  1. A buckle fracture is an incomplete fracture in which one side of the bone is bent,
  2. resulting in a small buckle,
  3. without the fracture of the other side.

This type of fracture is stable, meaning that the pieces of the broken bone have not broken away from one another.

It is typically caused by sudden pressure or force applied to the bone, typically resulting from a fall.

The healing process for a buckle fracture is typically 3 to 4 weeks, and the child can be treated with a wrist splint, a short arm cast, or both.

It is likely that the child will need to spend three to four weeks either bracing or casting the fracture, followed by a one to two week period of partial bracing.
